Rebecca Mascarenhas and Phil Howard’s ‘Sonny’s Kitchen in Barnes’ is being launched with a new name, a new team and a great new look.
The neighbourhood restaurant Church Road, as it'll now be called, will feature Sam Astley-Dean as Head Chef, he was talent spotted by Phil Howard and joined the kitchen at Elystan Street. Phil says Sam is “Curious, creative and a great communicator; he’s open minded and he’s always willing to listen and learn. Great qualities for a chef. “ In giving Sam his first head chef’s role Phil Howard & Rebecca Mascarenhas are confident that they’ve spotted a star who’ll put Church Road firmly on the culinary map.
Alan Parry will be running front of house, returning to the UK in 2016 Alan walked straight into a job at Elystan Street in Chelsea as Deputy General Manager and then moved to Sonny’s Kitchen in 2018. Alan has the enviable combination of a friendly relaxed personality combined with endless energy and attention to detail. All the attributes of a great General Manager. Rebecca’s long-time collaborator, ex-Square head chef and Elystan Street chef-patron Phil Howard joined as co-owner of Sonny’s in 2014.
Sonny’s Kitchen had been a part of the Barnes scene since 1986, and during that time they have seen customers, for whom romance blossomed in quiet corner booths, become parents and now even grandparents. They have hosted christenings, weddings and innumerable family Sunday lunches, and even the Spice Girls and the Rolling Stones came to dinner (although not on the same night)!
A pioneer of neighbourhood restaurants, Rebecca Mascarenhas has watched her customers enjoy the relaxed ambience of Sonny’s with its simple modern British menus over the past three decades. The team at Cleaner Products are delighted to be working with Rebecca and Phil on the new ‘Church Road’ project and wish all the team the very best with this exciting new name in the London restaurant arena.
